has anyone heard of a Fila? (i think thats how it was pronounced). i was in petsmart the other day and a woman had one, about 7 months old. well i walked by her and the dog lunged at me and almost bit my arm! she appoligized and said that she doesnt let people pet the dog because acting like that is normal. (even though i had just walked by and didnt even try to pet the dog) while talking to this woman, this dog (a puppy!) was staring me down, it was just the coldest dog i had ever met. shouldnt 7 month olds be hyper bouncing puppies? she told me that she keeps this dog in a small chain link run with several other exotic, large, aggressive breeds. she collects them i guess...but wouldnt you think breeders of rare breeds such as these screen potential buyers so they dont end up stuck in pens in rural counties? i just couldnt believe people actually want to breed dogs that want to attack people as early as 7 months old. i can't imagine what would happen if this dog ever got loose... are these fila breeds really that aggressive at such a young age? and if so, why are people breeding them and handing them over to any old redneck who wants one? (sorry to say that, but this woman was the official stereotype) i've met many pit bulls who never acted as aggressive as this dog. i just dont understand people today and breeding dogs to be that aggressive and not seriously screening the owners first.

Hi Rachel,
The name rang a little bell with me but I knew nothing about them so I did a quick search. Apparently, it's known as a Fila Mastiff and is a natural guard dog. It mentioned that they need very little training in knowing how to protect. I don't know why this woman would bring a dog like this into a store....especially where there may be small children. Sadly, many of these dogs end up in the wrong hands.
