Are you sure it's a male? I have a feamle that does that but have never seen a male dig before like your talking about. Course I'm no expert either just my personal experience. Are you positive he's a he?

it sounds either like a female trying to lay eggs (possibly infertile ones) or trying to brumate. either way, hes a bit young. is the substrate sand? if hes trying to brumate, youll notice he seems sleepy a lot and isnt as interested in food, doesnt wanna bask. i dont know much about the egg thing

he/she is still active, not eating as much but digging a hole as we speak. kind of annoying when the water bowl is filled with sand every five minutes. but thats ok. also not basking as much. never had any experience with brumation either

losing interest in food, not wanting to bask and trying to hide are symptoms of brumation.my oldest is about 11 months now (right lisa?) and is unsure if he wants to brumate or not. he's on paper towels, and sometimes before his lights turn off he'll hide under them. he often wont come out on his own in the morning or bask on his own, although he wont fight if i put him on his log. he actually often stays in the cool area of his rubbermaid (the temps are fine). he isnt as interested in food, althouh hes a pig so he cant totally resist. if i watch him a lot ill notice his eyes closing like he's sleepy.

sounds like your baby might very well be trying his first brumation you could try giving him a hide log or something and see if he does go rest in there, and itll save you and him the hassle of digging

ye i will try that thanks. not really a baby though about 10in when i got 6 months later (now) about 14in and what exactly is brumation ;long sleeping period? should I still offer food, cant resist some super worms and crickets only eats a little bit though i guess now wouldnt be a good time to move to a larger 4x2x2 cage. have a 50 gallon now but it 30x18x18 in about that

i call all beardies babies
7 months is a bit young to brumate, but stranger things have happened. this is my first time dealingw ith it too, so i can only tell you what im doing. brumation is sort of the beardie version of hibernating. i think some really do just sleep most of the winter away. others just spend more time sleeping and less time eating than they did before. im still offering food, but not as much. basically if he doesnt want it, dont force it. on the other hand, when a beardie loses interest in food, its never a bad idea to get a fecal done.
