pulling on the leash and future problems

dragonpuppy Aug 09, 2005 06:15 PM

i've been training my boxer pup how to walk on a leash. he's a kitchen champion. i've expanded to new territory, meaning the living room and the dining room. he did alright. had a few tiny moments where he lost concentration. he would run off in a new direction and i couldn't put enough slack in the leash so i could get him back. so he pulled. not like he was trying to go one way, but more like he was trying the collar off. i don't want this to become a problem in the future when i have to make a correction with the leash. we'll be looking for a puppy kindergarden class for him once he finishes getting his shots in a few weeks. but what do i do in the mean time?

My dog did that when he was younger. We took him to training classes and the trainer had use a Gentle leader. Heres a pic

When the dog pulls it closes their month and pulls their muzzle to their neck. They dont like it so eventully they'll stop. My dog is a lab/border collie/shepard dog that weighs 80lbs and it stopped him.
