>>Dear Kathy,
>>
>>No, the contract I signed when I bought her did not specifically state that I had to show proof of spaying in order to get her AKC papers. It did say that not altering the pet would make the contract null and void (at 6 mo.) I have every intention to alter her when she is old enough.
>>
>>When I emailed the AKC and pleaded my case, they said that the only person that can provide you registraion papers is the breeder.
>>
>>When I bought my puppy, the breeder said that she will send me the papers when they come back from the AKC. It worries me that I can't get ahold of her.
>>
>>I have since learned that a buyer should be shown the "reciept" that the papers are processing. I guess I was "in-the-blue" about that matter--buyer beware!
>>
>>I have heard about another type of "independant registration" that allows pure-bred dogs to compete in AKC events. If worst-comes-to-worst I could go that route.

Yes, an Indefinite Listing Privilege, ILP number, allows you to participate in many AKC events. Conformation showing and field trials are the major things you could not do. The fun stuff like agility, Rally-O, obedience, tracking, and lots of other stuff is all open to ILP dogs. But still, keep trying to get that Limited Registration. Your dog is entitled to it. I never show my dogs, but I still keep all their papers up to date. I feel it is their birthright.
