Update on Indy

divinedragon Aug 19, 2005 02:53 PM

Hey everyone,

I just thought I should mention that my pup wasn't 7 weeks when we got her...that's what the add in the paper said and I automatically said 7 weeks...she's more like 9 weeks now and we've only had her for 4 days. I took her over to grandma's to socialize with the grown up dogs and they seemed to have put her in her place. She no longer acts aggressivly to the pup there and minds her manners around the older dogs...they haven't been alone together though and I'm hoping that when the pups are she won't return to her snapping snarling ways.

A new issue though, We've had Indy for 4 days already and have her on a schedule for eating and going out for potty breaks and all that fun stuff BUT the potty training isn't going so well....is it too early to expect results?? I take her out at 6 am, 9am, Noon, 3pm, 7pm and again at midnight....and she'll usually go outside, I praise her and give her a treat right after she's done and play for a while then bring her back in....and then....not 10 minutes later she's left a piddle on my floor. It seems that she can hold it while she's in her crate for 2 - 3 hours but as soon as she's out and about she's gotta go every 30 minutes. Not huge puddles just little ones...but why??? she was just outside....and i pick her up and take her out but then she doesn't wanna go anymore and just wants to play. Is it normal for puppies to pee every 30 minutes...just a little sprinkle??? or is there something wrong with my schedule??? am I expecting too much from her so soon....should I just wait it out and see what happens...please let me know if u have any suggestions.

I would love to post a picture of her if anyone can give me instructions on how to do so.

Thanks
Riz & Indy

I recommend taking a pup out once per hour whenever you're at home and awake. Her body has to catch up for the elimination it was not able to do when crated. There are several how-to articles about housetraining at the link under my signature. I spent many, many hours on those, to try to explain it more thoroughly than is possible to type out over and over in question answers, so you will find it spelled out more completely there. Dogs don't have much control until around 16 weeks, some much older. Urinary tract infections are common, so that's always important to watch for. And never use punishment in housetraining. It causes huge setbacks.
