Bad news from Katrina (sort of off topic)..

LeahC Sep 03, 2005 02:49 PM

As some of you know, my uncle lives in the New Orleans Garden District with six Catahoula Leopard Dogs. His house, over 200 years in the family, has been destroyed by debris during the hurricane. Five of the dogs have been found and identified by my uncle's friends, unfortunately none survived. My uncle has not yet been found and not a single friend or member of the family has heard from him. His favourite of the dogs is also missing. We're being told that the situation has a very grim outlook, but that until we know for sure we should not give up hope.

My family has had a devastating summer with the loss of family members and two more deaths very near. The thought of one more possible loss has been more than most of us can take. I just wanted anyone who cares to know why I won't be here for a long while. My family is flying out this afternoon to be with our cousins in Calgary, my uncle's children, and I won't have the time to be on the internet. My cousin and I are taking the dogs in his car and starting the drive in the morning. Wish us all luck, please keep my family in your thoughts..

Leah I am so very sorry to read this terrible news. Until you know the whereabouts of your uncle and dog we must have faith that he will be found. It took almost 4 days for me to learn someone I knew was safe. It may take longer in some other areas. In the meantime I will keep a good thought for your family and for your uncle. Good Luck and may God Bless you all.

Every time I read a new thread regarding the afer effects of the hurricane my heart just sinks. I'm so sorry everyone has to go through this. I'll keep your uncle and his beloved dogs in my prayers tonight. My best wishes for a safe reunion for your entire family soon.
