Night Behavior

smittythesingr Sep 15, 2005 06:29 AM

I have a 4 year old beagle. He is a great dog, but has very peculiar behavior. At night (and only at night) he seems very fidgety. He sleeps in the bedroom with my wife and I. He will pant, whine and bark to go out. When I take him out into the back yard, he only barks. When I bring him back in, he does the same thing. This happens every night. If i try to lay down in bed, he is constantly whining and head butting me. This happens every night and he just stops when he wants to.

Whether he is outside in the backyard all day or relaxing in the house, this behavior never changes....Any suggestions ???

Very odd behavior. I'm inclined to say that he got into a bad habit and has decided not to break it. I'm sorry, I have no advice for you at this time. Hopefully others will.

Sounds like wildlife in the yard at night. I'd go with him, possibly keep him on leash, and not let him stay out there. Possibly get him to settle better indoors at night with chew toys, but be careful to provide them before he gets agitated, not after he gets agitated and wakes you up. You don't want to get him started waking you for his treat!
