Safely bulking up a Lab

Kingofspades Sep 20, 2005 05:30 AM

I might adopting a yellow lab mix from a local shelter. She is sweet as pie and only 10 months old.
The issue is...she is thin. You can see her ribs and hip bones.
How does one go about bulking up a dog safely?
Is there a "weight gain" food?
I want to get all this info squared away before I think about adopting her.

Thanks in advance all,
-KOS

Slow and steady is the way to go with weight gain. There are some super premium brands out there that are designed for working dogs- Innova EVO or Canidea comes to mind off the top of my head. I would probably use one of them along with regular exercise to build muscle as well.

Good luck on rehabing this girl. Sounds like she's going to have a good life ahead of her.

I SHOULD be getting her tomorrow if all goes as planned.
I've been doing plenty of research on yellow labs.
She will be getting plenty of muscle building exercise

I hope to give her a good life.

Good luck to you both! It sounds like a great match for you! Keep us posted and post pictures when you can get them.
