Constant Bed-Wetting

amapri993 Sep 21, 2005 07:37 AM

For the past week and 1/2- 2 weeks, our 5 month old female Chi has been wetting her kennel every night. We have had her almost 3 months, she only had this problem when we first got her. I don't understand what her problem is. I cut off all food and water after 8 at night. She is taken out a few times before being locked up for the night, all the way till 1:30 or sometimes 2 in the morning. Usually she is locked up from 1:30 am till I get up at about 7:15. I feel like she is wetting in there and it dosen't bother her anymore and she thinks its ok. I thought dogs weren't soppose to like messing in their 'den' area.

Again, this is a new problem, not something we have been dealing with the whole time we have had her. Do I have any other options other then getting up at 3 or 4 to have to take her out? Shouldn't she be able to hold it? Should I cut her food and water off earlier?
Thanks in advance--
Amanda

Might want to take your girl into the vet and have her evaluated for a urinary tract infection. It is fairly common for such young and small dogs.

What are signs of UTIs in dogs?

What you are seeing in your dog is certainly a possible sign, but it can only be diagnosed by a veterinarian. You'll need to get her out of that crate until she's able to hold it again. Leaving her in there in this condition is ruining her instincts to keep her bed clean.

I have read a little bit on signs of UTIs in dogs, and she dosen't have any of the symptoms or signs from what I have read. I don't think this is what she has.
And then she didn't wet her bed last night- even though she ate a later dinner (later then 8) and was put in her kennel for the night around 12:30, which is early for her. (shrug)
Just keeps me guessing and wondering....

Once again as one of the previous posters mentioned only a vet can determine if the dog has a UTI. There may be some other lying medical condition or it could just be a slip in manners. It would still be wise to at least give your vet a call. Normally a dog will go to extreme lengths to not soil it's sleeping place.
