Where on earth is Jessie?
She is around been busy with work and Cookie and all I think.
Hi Leah, and everyone else. I'm still here, I just haven't been to the site lately. It's been a really crazy couple of months, our computer at home isn't working and we have no clue when it is going to get fixed. What little time I do have is dedicated to Cookie and my breeding bettas. So sorry for just leaving, I am alive and well.
A lil' update on Cookie. She will be a year old next month!
November 6th to be exact.
Can't believe it's been that long! The bad news...she has mange. We have a mangy mutt
. Over the summer, we started noticing a rash coming and going on her belly and the insides of her legs. We took her to the vet, they took one quick look at her, and said it was allergies. They gave her a cortizone shot and sent us on our way. It didn't help, she was still licking and itching like crazy so last week we went back and they did a skin scraping and found out she has mange. (My poor baby!!) In a way though, it's better than allergies. We can control this a lot easier than if it were allergies, and with treatment, she might never have a flair up again, where with allergies, she is almost garanteed to have an outbreak every summer. So we have to put cream on the affected areas every day, and she has to wear a flea/tick collar for a month. If it doesn't go away in ten days, we have to get her dipped. The vet said she got the mange from her mother.
Other than that, she is her usual crazy self.
She's getting a LOT better with the jumping as long as I have treats. If I stand on the leash, she immediately hits the floor, I don't have to physically hold her down with the leash anymore. If she is off leash...thats different but shes getting better. She calms down within minutes of greeting people.
She's a lot better with the pulling now too thank goodness. She still does a little, but as soon as she gets to the end of the leash, she slows down and waits for me to catch up.
She is no longer in the crate for the most part. A couple of months ago, we started keeping her in the bedroom with us at night and she has been fine since we started. And she even lays quietly and waits for us to wake up in the morning.
She was doing so good with it, we decided to give it a shot during the day too. She's been going in the bedroom for about two weeks now and I think everyone is happy. Cookie get's excited now when she sees her kong filled with goodies (she gets this when we leave her), and happily follows me in the bedroom, rather than me chasing her down the stairs and physically putting her in the crate. She just never liked it. We thought she would eventually grow to like it, we always treated it as a positive thing, but she just never did. Also, shortly before we started putting her in the bedroom, we noticed in the back corner of her crate, it was dented in. Like bad. She was pulling on it, trying to unlatch the top part, smart little thing hehe. She was almost out too, if we hadn't noticed it, she could have gotten really hurt. So no more crate.
And everything is fine.
Alright, well that is my mile long update.
I will try to get to the other boards as much as I can. Nice of u to wonder where I was. And I will try to get a more updated pic of Cookie later and post it.
