Spay The deed is being done soon

rubyk Oct 04, 2005 03:59 PM

Hi Everyone,
My Little Ruby Ann all 4lbs of her is being spayed on the 24th.She did go onto her first heat on Sept,13th and they are sure she will be all done by then with that. I was hoping to have the spay done before her first heat, but nature beat me to it.LOL
I must say even though my vet say's this is a safe thing to do, I'm very worried. She is my little love of my life. With having Lupus and Rayualds she gives me reason's to get up each day to feed her, walk her and love her.She is a sweet angle that has bought so much joy into my life!
They tell me she has to stay over night, are first apart time is near.Yes, I guess you guessed it, she is spoiled and does sleep on the end of my bed.It will be a long night.
She did have one bad reaction to one of her shot's in the past, but had the rest with no problems, but I'm worried about when they put her to sleep for this, that she will wake up and be fine is all I want.
Did anyone here have any problems that I should know about with the spaying?
Guess I'm just looking for reasurance that this is safe and all will be ok.
Well, thanks for letting me ramble on.

I just had my little girl spayed a couple weeks ago. She is very spoiled and well loved and is 'mommas little girl' as well. Vets totally know what they are doing and are well trained and have done this many many times. I am very sure your puppy will be ok. It was hard seeing my chi all drowsy and woozy from the meds the first night, but they seem to snap out of by the next morning, so your little girl should be ok by the time you pick her up. I also hate that she has these ugly stitches on her little tummy, but oh well, they are necesary.
Anyways, your little girl will be in good hands with the vet and I am sure all will be well

I totally understand your concern! LaVie was only 4.5 lbs and I'd never had an animal so small. I was so worried about my girl going under anesthesia that I waited until she was 6.5 years old to spay her. But, my worry was pointless. Everything was fine!

Two things I learned about over the years with LaVie, that really helped her recovery time, were to make sure the vet uses ISO (it's something like isoflourane) for the anesthesia and to spend the extra bucks for an IV. These two things made a *very* noticable difference in her recovery time, even as a geriatric. It costs more but since seeing that difference I will *always* select these options for my fur kids.

I'll be thinking of your little girl and sending good thoughts!!

Hi, Thank you for letting me know I'm not the only worry wart!
I will ask the vet about the iv and the method you went with. Want Ruby to have an easy recovery also.I to would rather spend the extra to make sure she is fine.
Your little one look's very lovely!
