10 month help with topknot

brandilee Oct 11, 2005 09:54 PM

Brandi will not keep anything on her hair. She has a silky coat and the hair is long and in front of her eyes. Any ideas to how to get her to keep a bow in topknot for more then 5 minutes.
I have a beautiful bow to match her Halloween dress that I want her to wear. Please give me sone advice.

I'm sorry, I can't help you with this problem, but the wonderful people on the shih tzu board I'm sure can. Please go there and ask.

It just takes patience. I would recommend that you use a small rubber band, and put about 3 turns in it. Its going to take time for the pup to realize that this is suppose to stay in. I find that's the biggest problem. I try to start my show kids as soon as the hair is long enough to pull up into a top knot. That way by the time they get to the stage that we're ready to show, they know what top knots are all about.

Also, if you're just starting out with topknots, don't put the bow in until the pup is used to having the hair pulled up in the first place. That will help a lot!
