When we decided Kaiser had to be pts, I had to return to school for an exam that day. My dad was to take Kaiser in to the vet first thing that morning. They couldn't get an appointment and were booked for Wednesday morning. My dad didn't tell me because there was no point in upsetting me further.
The couple that was over for dinner we've only known for a few months. A very sweet older couple. Kaiser bit the woman as she reached to pet him after forgetting our warnings not to. The husband, we found out that evening, has been training dogs for 40 years and has an impressive veterinary background.
So Tuesday night, Bob called my dad and told him that there was a program on tv he should watch. There was a trainer dealing with dogs just like Kaiser - biting for strange reasons, and not giving any warning. Within 3 weeks this trainer had many of these dogs turned right around. Bob came over and got some more history from me and then went and spent some time with Kaiser.
Kaiser is going to stay at my parents' house where Bob and my dad are going to work with him to implement this training program. I don't know a lot about it yet but I can't believe the confidence with which Bob and my dad are going after this.
I'm not getting my hopes up - I believe that an aggressive dog won't change. But they want to try to turn Kaiser around and are very confident that they will succeed. It's a last ditch effort but at this point, I'd rather take the time to try it out than rush to have him pts.
So Kaiser was NOT PTS, although I firmly believed that he was. I'm sorry that I led everyone to believe that. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens. If it works, wonderful. If not, we'll be back where we started and he'll be PTS.. I don't really know what to think about the whole thing, but that's a lot of coincidences. Couldn't get into the vet, he bit a dog trainer's wife, then this show happened to be on right while we're going through this...
