Have you looked into Canidae? I don't know if it's cheaper or not than the other ones but I've found that it's cheaper than Nutro Natural.. He eats less of it. It's also specially formulated to carry dogs right from puppy-hood to senior, based on the though that in nature, dogs don't have that choice between formulas. It's all human grade ingredients and might be more appropriate for feeding two dogs of such different ages..

Just a thought.. I'll never feed my dog anything else, his health is so flawless since we switched to it.. He had some nasty skin problems on other foods.. My dad's dog was also able to stop taking Metacam for her hips since eating it, and her usually picky appetite has returned full force..

It might be worth looking at, anyway

My dog likes Canidae too. She's mostly on Wellness, but I sometimes mix it with Canidae. In terms of price, it's hard to tell which brands are cheaper, since price fluctuates depending on store and area. I've visited five different stores that sell super-premium food in my area, and the prices are all different. My advice would be to find a food your dog likes and does well on and buy it--even if it does cost a few extra dollars a month. If it helps keep them healthy, the extra cost it worth it.
