heads up!

oc_spirit Oct 16, 2005 01:41 PM

The autumn wind is whispering through the changing leaves of the baring trees and that can only mean one thing...winter's coming!!!!! And what does that mean? why dogsledding of course!!!!! I know it's early but I just wanted to give you guys a heads up of two races that I'm going to be in this winter so you can all mark your calenders and come cheer me on LOL It's actually quite something to see!! Around 100 gorgeous Sibes all yipping with glee for the same thing - the chance to run 4 miles around a scenic course through a wildlife preservation! Meet the dogs, meet the mushers, and see first hand why I can't help but love this sport!! If you're not a huge fan of cold and winter that's alright, you can still come on down and enjoy the festivities from indoors.

Both races are located at Toronto's Kortright Centre (I highly recommend visiting their Peregrin Falcon Centre!) which I can provide directions to if needed. The first race is January 21&22 and the second is February 25&26. These are two-day races which means all qualifiers are required to race 4miles both days to make a total of 8miles. The two times are added together and the one with the shortest time wins! Dogs are welcome to come but they are not allowed inside the buildings. You must keep your dog away from the sled dogs unless the owner says it's ok because not all the sled dogs are well socialized and are dog-aggressive. Also it's the courteous thing to do. Dogs also must be kept back from the trails especially at the start so as not to distract the dogs in harness. Hope to see some of you at the races!!! If you do plan on coming please PM me so I can make sure to find you and depending on how many of you come out I may even be able to give you a short ride at the end of the races (on Sunday) depending on how the team feels. They're usually ready to go again but sometimes all the excitment wears them right out. Oh ya there's also food and beverages that can be bought in the buildings.

OK that sounds like great fun! It's a bit out of my neighborhood, but hey, if I'm ever up north, I'll look into watching an event or two.
