Are timors really that skittish? I am very intrested in them and would love to add them to my collection but I am not to fond with skittish animals though i did take a dwarf tegu. Do they offer to bite alot or are they all claws? Thanks for any and all replies. Dave.

WC and LTC animals are beyond skittish and will bite. It seems that people have had better luck with CB animals, which aren't that hard to find. I don't think they'd ever be like a bearded dragon or something in terms of stressless-ness around humans.

The timor I gave to my friend and his wife was over 4 years old and hides almost all of the time (typical). They are fast, good escape artists, like to burrow, and can turn their head all of the way around to bite you when being handled (usually when your not looking) because they have a long neck. Very beautiful animals but they dont like human contact.

That they bite unusually hard. My Timor, kind of pathetically, is my biggest lizard, so I thought that bite was the norm.

Hi,

I have a couple of timors and they are totally crazed - when they are on the bottom of the cage and I walk into the reptile room they fly around and bounce off the walls, then climb up to the top where I have hide spots and a nesting box. Mine do not like to be handled at all - they've never bitten me, but whenever I open the cage I am very cautious - they will literally come flying out the door and start running across the floor - it's quite an adventure just to clean the cage.

If you want something you can handle I agree with the others - get a bearded dragon, or if it must be a monitor get an ackie - they are also somewhat skittish, but not nearly as much as the timors in my humble opinion.
