Eating problems

jasmine82ng Oct 23, 2005 11:04 PM

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and I'm desperate for help..
I've had my cavalier Jewelz for a year now.. I fed her science diet when i first got her (abt 9 wks old). At about 4 mths old, she stopped eating for about 4 days. I brought her to the vet, and she recommended i cook for her.. So i did, rice, chicken, veggies, multivitamins, sardines, etc.. She then ate normally again.. Until abt 3 wks ago, she stopped eating AGAIN...
so, i thought she was just being picky.. I put her food out for 20 minutes every day, twice a day, if she didn't eat it, i take it away.. but she didn't eat even after 4 days. =(
and on one of the days, she threw up.. it wasn't food, it was just foamy slimy kinda like saliva-like stuff. so i brought her to the vet, vet ran some test, said she had tonsilitis, her white blood cells were low, and she was going tru false pregnancy.. gave her some anti-biotics..
it's been a week now and she still hasn't eaten, she eats like a mouthful a day and that's it. last night she threw up. I came home today i found vomit again. I'm really worried.. Is this common among cavs? and does anyone have any idea or suggestion as to what i should or can do?

Hi Jasmine,

I have 2 cavaliers, both of them are just over 2 yrs of age, the older one Henry (by 3 months) went through a time when he would'nt eat his food we tried everything but no matter which food we gave him nothing worked, things got so bad we would hand feed him every night he was sick several times a white frothy liquid, we just kept trying different foods for about 6 months untill one day he just decided he did'nt want to be hand fed anymore and started sticking his head in the bowl and was eating himself, if your dog is good with a friendly nature and lively in himself as long as he is eating enough to get by he will grow out of it, I spoke to lots of people and the general opinion seems to be that sometimes you get a cavalier who just likes the extra attention he gets from being fussy, chin up he will grow out of it .
