Eats Like Crazy and Doesn't Gain Weight

BaileyDane Oct 24, 2005 04:35 PM

I adopted a 2 year old Harlequin Great Dane from the SPCA in April. He was very underweight at the time, and has since made a slight improvement. I am concerned because I have him up to 8 cups of food a day and he isn't gaining any weight. The extra food moves right through him and doesn't stick. He is currently on Nutro Large Breed Adult. I put him on Innova Adult when I got him but changed for the same reason stated above. He is fairly active and I know he's still growing. I just want to make sure he's healthy.

Does anyone have suggestions about a good food that will help him gain weight? I prefer to stick to strictly dry dog food, though I'm willing to try just about anything now.

I appreciate any recommendations or comments.

Thanks!

Hi!

I just have a question first. Have you taken your dog to the vet for a thorough checkup? If not, I'd do it right away. Even if you have, I think I'd take in a stool sample and make sure your dog hasn't picked up any worms since then.
