I havea 4 month old german shephard who seems to have gotten the idea it's okay to pee in his crate. How do I break him of this habit? Do I have to catch him in the act all the time?

You get him out of the crate for 1-2 weeks, minimum, and confine him to a different area instead, where he doesn't have to be in the mess if he urinates. You also have him medically checked. NO PUNISHMENT! It will not work, and will cause other and worse problems. Read up on housetraining at the link below my signature. The articles filed alphabetically under "Housetraining" there will tell you exactly how to do it.
