"pawing" at right eye/ear..but no redness/discharge. What could be the cause ?

Hello..I have a new Chi named "BOO" (we got him on Halloween) he was born Aug.22nd...making him about 9 weeks old. He is extremely lively and the cutest little thing ever. I love him so much. My irish terrier mix who is 3 years old does not care for him too much though...but I think this will change when BOO gets older and more mature. At any rate....I have noticed that BOO paws at his right side of his face like he is scratching something on the right side....I dont know if its his ear, his eye or what. His eyes look to be in excellent condition...there is no discharge...no cherry eye. his ears are clean and there is no foul odor. He only does this perhaps 3 times a day and only takes about 4 swipes with his paw to the area each time....so its definitely not excessive. He has been doing this ever since I took him home from the pet shop 5 days ago. He does have an appointment for follow-up shots in 1 week. But in the meantime, anybody have any clue what this could be ? And yes..today, when he scratched at the right side of his face, he yelped in pain briefly for the 1st time.

Thanks again....I appreciate the advise.

Definately mention it to the vet when you get to the appointment. You may want to see if you can get in a few days earlier just to be sure.

Dear dog,
I can not buy anything larger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think that I will continue to sleep on the couch to ensure your comfort. Look at videos of dogs sleeping, they can actually curl up in a ball. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to your fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straigt out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space used is nothing more than doggy sarcasm.

A dog new to your home needs to visit your veterinarian within the first one to two days. A week is too long to wait.
