weird question concerning dog butts

freshmeat Nov 06, 2005 11:36 PM

Sorry I do not have a better way to put this question. I noticed our 3 year old female doberman's anus is sometime not closed tightly (gaping hole with the size of a pinky) when she's standing on all fours. Is that normal?

Sorry, I have smaller dogs so I can't help you out. I hope others that know dobermans can help you out.

Dear dog,
I can not buy anything larger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think that I will continue to sleep on the couch to ensure your comfort. Look at videos of dogs sleeping, they can actually curl up in a ball. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to your fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straigt out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space used is nothing more than doggy sarcasm.

I don't think that it is unusual as I see my own 2 Dobe bitches doing the same thing sometimes. If she is doing it all the time, then I would ask the vet about it.... especially combined with the odor issue you are having with her. This breed should not need baths very often and are usually low odor. One thing you can do to cut down on baths but keep her fresh is to get a spray bottle and put 1/4 listerine (the regular kind not mint), and 3/4 water. Spritz her down once a day if need be, and just wipe off with a hand towel. Keeps them nice and fresh.

I am so glad to hear our dog is not the only one doing that. She has a strong sense of clean-ness, doesn't roll in the ground or go into thick bushes, clean herself all the time. that's why we are so suprised why she smells so strong. I will go ahead and try that listerine idea. thanks

man, too bad i can't send a smell sample over the internet...ha
