our dobie smells

freshmeat Nov 06, 2005 11:40 PM

We bath our dobe once a week with de-odorizing shampoo and conditioner. But she still smells very strong at the end of the week. Is this normal? We feed her Nutral and use Oatmeal flavored shampoo. What do you guys use?

I am thinking about taking her to Petco's groomer to see how long she will last with professional cleaning. They said they will even clean her anal glands. Forgot to ask them how, do any of you guys know?

Thank you

That seems like very excessive bathing to me. Has your vet evaluated this dog for any skin diseases?

Dear dog,
I can not buy anything larger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think that I will continue to sleep on the couch to ensure your comfort. Look at videos of dogs sleeping, they can actually curl up in a ball. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to your fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straigt out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space used is nothing more than doggy sarcasm.

Does your dog seem bothered by it's anal glands? If there is a problem with anal glands, that can cause a terrible smell. Unless your dog rolls in stuff it shouldn't, you shouldn't have to bathe that often.

She's does not rub her butt on the carpet or anything. Other than that, how can you tell if a dog is bothered by its anal glands?

and how do they clean it at the groomers?

thanks

Scooting and licking seem to be the signs that the anal sacs are full. My dog hasn't had her sacs emptied. A vet can squeeze them (with a tissue/rag in hand). I wasn't aware that groomers did it.
