I so excited!!

krasch Nov 07, 2005 08:14 AM

I will be picking up my Chi today at noon. She is 9 weeks old and weighs 1.5 lbs! I live in a small apartment, and I have a kitten that is bored outta his poor little mind.

I have never had a chi before. I did a lot of research, I know the woman that has the pups for many years, and am just really excited to meet her, learn her personality, love her to pieces, and just share my heart with her.

Anything I need to know? Anything I should do to help in the transition? I was thinking of just keeping her in my pocket for a couple of days..... (not JUST in my pocket) but focusing on getting her familiar with me and my scent, my home, my boyfriend (the cat!)....! Good idea? Bad idea?

My friend keeps the pups in a playpen, but Zina can already climb out of it, so I do not plan to pen her at all. She can't go through the night - so what should I do for the nights. I expect that she will sleep with me, and I am assuming that she will wake me up when she needs to go out. Any one ever litter box train a chi???

Thanks for letting me share my news.

Dear dog,
I can not buy anything larger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think that I will continue to sleep on the couch to ensure your comfort. Look at videos of dogs sleeping, they can actually curl up in a ball. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to your fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straigt out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space used is nothing more than doggy sarcasm.

Hi,
First off your new puppy will be a little scared once you get home.My chihuahua Ruby Ann was 8 weeks old when I bought her home, she is 8 months old now.
Keep in mind that your little one is leaving her parents and other litter mates.I had Ruby's bed already bought with some soft toys and a small infant blanket all in her bed. She went right there own her own. She would not eat that whole day and never left to even go potty on her pee pad.By the next morning she was better and started to move around some and look around the house some.I held her lot's as did our children, and then we showed her our big lab/boxer mix dog. She ran back to her bed.LOL
They are the best of friends now.
I would keep your little one home, not out running around showing him/her off just yet. It is best to let them get to know you and the people in your household first. My Ruby cried all night that first night in her crate when I went to bed.By the second night I caved in and she has slept with me from then on.I carry her bed to my room and put it at the end of my bed,but I always wake up to find her in bed with me.LOL
I do not bring her pee pad in my room,I just close my door at night so she cannot run around the house on her own in the dark. She has never went potty on my bed or my bedroom floor. She holds it till morning. Just lucky there I guess.
It is a personal choice to crate your pup at night or let it in your bed. Keep in mind, that once they are in your bed, it is hard to break them of that. I myself do not mind her on my bed,but that is my choice.I hope some of this helps, and Im sure others here will be adding more.

Last night was a good night. Bella Zina slept all night in the bed with me - only one issue when she was under all the pillows but she let me know ASAP! When we woke up, I put her on the paper and she went teetee...then I fed her a handful of food which she promptly put away!! I put her back on the paper and she dooted. So far, only one accident in the house!

This morning she was much more active... walking around, avoiding the cat that hissed, playing with her Cat in the Hat....but the moment I sat down at the computer, she is ready for lap time!

What a great addition to the family!

I'm so happy to hear of the successes already. Keep posting and let us know how things go with her. She does sound like a gem.
