Dobe vomit

freshmeat Nov 14, 2005 09:03 AM

This is the 3rd week since we adopted the 3 yr old dobe. She threw up early morning twice last week and once this morning. Afterwards she had no loss of appetite or energy level. The liquid was cream colored. She only ingested Nutral dog food (dry) and small amount of dog biscuits as treats.

Her former owner was using Kibles and Bits. We have made the transition by slowly increase the mix of Nutral into her Kibles and Bits. Can this cause the vomitting?

Any tips? thanks

Are you feeding the dog enough food? Maybe feed 3 times a day if you are.

If that doesn't work, a quick trip to the vet to get a few things checked out is not the worst idea in the world.

Dear dog,
I can not buy anything larger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think that I will continue to sleep on the couch to ensure your comfort. Look at videos of dogs sleeping, they can actually curl up in a ball. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to your fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straigt out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space used is nothing more than doggy sarcasm.

I agree that you might need a trip to the vet. Does your dog eat really quickly and throw up right after eating--or is it less predictable. Poor pup.

We feed her twice a day at 6am and 5pm. She does eat really really fast though. She tends to vomit early in the morning before her breakfast. Today she did it right when she was eating.

We have scheduled an appointment with the vet this Sat.

Obviously there are many things this could be, and a trip to the vet is the best option.

When my little one was 1 she started having symptoms like this and vets couldn't figure it out. A year and a half later, we finally came up with stomach ulcer, and have managed to sort it out. She got to the point where she was throwing up blood for 2 hours most mornings.

Although unlikely to be this, in the early stages, removing rich foods from her diet helped alot, allowing me to get some sleep. ( she would start throwing up around 5am and go for about an hour on and off). No red meats was the biggest help, followed by diet foods.

Now at three and a half, she is finally putting on weight and rarely throwing up.

She is on a low fat diet, which has done alot of good.

May be worth a try.

Good Luck

I know of other people who have had this issue. They have solved it for the most part by giving just a small treat before bedtime....like a couple of biscuts, and then a biscut in the am as soon as they get up.

It seems that with the other dogs I have heard about it had more to do with just having an empty stomach and that making them feel sick. I know that if I go too long without eating, that I will feel sick also. I'm not saying that it is not something more serious, but I would try this first and see if it works.

we'll give that a try, thanks!

Exactly what I was going to say I keep some bisquits right by the bed and slip him a few before we actually get up in the morning.

Most likely there is something not right with the food, or the dog's digestive system is so messed up from the kibbles and bits that she is having trouble digesting anything.

I'm not familiar with the Nutral brand of dog food. Do you have a link to it's ingredients?

In a previous message, you mentioned that your dog smells -- is it this dog? Unless there is a thyroid problem or a specific parasite problem, the smell is usually caused from a poor diet, or a diet that isn't being digested well.
