New Doxin Puppy Questions

roboticboredom Dec 26, 2005 03:38 PM

We just got a short haired, smooth coat Doxin and i noticed that he has what looks like dandruff. Its pretty cold here in ohio (we live n key west but are up here for vacation) and i was just wondering if that could be the cause.he isnt itching except when we put the collaron him. He isnt missing any fur so i dont think its mange or anything. I was wondering what dogshampoo or other remedies have worked for you guys. or if there is anything i should avoid using, Anyhow... any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to those who respond!

I know some people who have used oatmeal baths for skin issues, but my dog hasn't had any problems so I can't help much. I hope others give you better responses. Good luck with your puppy!

You didn't mention his age, but if he's pretty young the missing fur might just not have started yet. It takes a long time to straighten out skin and coat once the problem has advanced, so you would do best to take him the vet now. If he is not a young puppy, it could be hypothyroidism. You could do exactly the worst thing for him by trying home remedies. Before you alter his skin in any way, let the vet see what it's doing.

Hi Beth and welcome!

I would follow KD's advice and take your new baby to the vet and have him checked out thoroughly before trying anything else.

Do you have any photos to share?

Dogs come into our lives, and too quickly go leaving pawprints on our hearts, and we will never be quite the same again.
