I am getting a new Boxer puppy, and I have mixed feelings about getting the ears cropped. I have heard that it can go wrong and not look like you planned. I want them be cropped but I want the tips to bend over. I was wondering if anybody had any advice on this.

I wouldn't do an ear crop on a dog, so I just got into a breed with stand-up ears, problem solved. But if you want a Boxer and you're going to do a crop, research until you find the right expert to do the procedure. That is really the only way to be as sure as possible that it will turn out well.

Personally I like the way various breeds look when they don't have the ears cropped. However if you choose to do so...choose wisely and do your research and homework. Bad ear croppings are very prevelant in Boxers and Dobes and several other breeds.

a puppy's ears need to be done between 8-12 weeks. if your puppy is too old then it would be best to leave them natural. most breeders will have the puppies ears done before they go to their new home, so you may want to disscus this with the person who is selling the puppy. if you do end up having to get the ears done yourself, find a vet thats good at it. ear croping is an art and you should talk to the vet about the type of crop you want and see if they have any pictures of crops that they have done. its going to take alot of work and effort from you to get the ears the way you want, at least 6 months. if your inexperienced in taping and it sounds like you are then you'll want to find someone who can teach you how to do it right. there's 3 different lengths of crops, millitary(short), medium, and show length(longand narrow). since you say you want the tips to fold over then the show crop would be best, though it is the hardest to get to stand. ideally for a crop though you dont want the tips to fold over in the first place. if you need more help and there arent boxer people near you then you can find a doberman or great dane person or someone whos has a breed that is traditionaly croped. hopefully all goes well with your new puppy.
