Games for Lurcher puppies?

LiquidOnyx Jan 14, 2006 01:05 PM

I have a lurcher (Whippet/Beddlington) puppy (14/15 weeks). She loves chase games and will retrieve a ball thrown for her for the first few throws, but like most lurchers she soon tires of bringing back the ball and finds it pointless (although she will still run after it!) Any ideas for any other games that she might enjoy playing in the park? (hopefully something that will burn off all her extra energy!)

Wow! She sure it cute! I'll be interested to see what she looks like full grown.

Anyway, I have greyhounds and about the only thing we did was throw a stuffie around for them. They preferred the squeaky noises it would make. We'd also place monkey in the middle, where we would throw the stuffie to another person and they would try to get it away from us.

When she gets older, you might want to try lure coursing with her, if there is anyplace near you that does that. Bet she'd love it.

I don't think there is anywhere nearby that does lure coursing unfortunately, cause I know she'd love it!
One of her favourite 'games' is to chase low flying crows! She's so fast she can easily keep up with them!

If the puppy is part whippet, try dragging something around tied to a string. I use the end of the leash for my pharaoh hound puppy. Make him chase it, letting him catch it every now and then, but since you have the other end you can easily get it back.
