Boxer pup and health

lescb19 Jan 15, 2006 04:28 PM

We just purchased a 5 1'2 month old boxer and we have a few questions. We just brought him home yesterday 1/14/06, we know that its only been a day but we noticed that he sleeps alot and just lays around, is this normal? Also he isn't eating very much and he will be sitting there attentive and then all the sudden he nods out like he has some kind of sleep disorder and one more thing we noticed that there is a green discharge coming from his private part, can someone please help us with this??? Thank-you..Les

I don't know much about boxers, but a puppy shouldn't be laying around all the time. Also, there should be no discharge. I'd take him to the vet as soon as possible.

I second that.. Get him to the vet ASAP. Boxer puppies may not be as lively as some, but they don't just lay around all day either, they're still a handful. And the discharge is scary. It might mean something is terribly wrong with the poor guy..

Boxers are especially prone to cardiac problems so I'd defintiely get this pup checked by a vet ASAP & make special note that you'd like to have his heart checked out. Where did you purchase the pup from? Do you have a health guarantee?

Every dog needs to be checked by your own veterinarian within 24 to 48 hours of adoption. The things you're noticing could be normal due to just having changed homes, but he needs that check up anyway, and your sense that something is not right may be based on other observations that you're not quite putting into words yet.
