Hello -
Our little baby (9month old husky) developed a hygroma on her front left elbow about 2.5 weeks ago. It happened while we were on a road trip from Colorado to California. We were in Flagstaff at the time, and stopped at a local vet to find out what the heck it was. He drained a couple ounces of fluid, and told us it is not a big deal and would probably re-fill if we were to completely drain it. When we got back home to Colorado we took her to our regular vet who wanted to drain it and keep a padded bandage on it.
I have been finding a lot of information on the web. Most everything I have read says that hygromas are caused by repeated aggrevation from laying on hard surfaces. However, one site I have found ( http://www.greatdanelady.com/articles/elbow_hygromas_bursas.htm ) cites genetics as being the cause. She offered several remedies including the use of DMSO, vitamins etc.
We do have wood floors in our home, and our dogs spend a couple of hours a day on our deck.
Please share any information or experiences you may have.
Thank you in advance for your help!! - Tony
