_Dog_Lover_ Jan 22, 2006 02:05 PM

Hi! I am new here, the puppies are about 2 weeks ols right now. The breeder is friends with my dad. He is selling puppies for like 2000 but he is going to let us pick one for free! so here is my question what do I need to look for in the puppies.I want a loving, playful, good natured puppy (by the way i am 12 almost 13). what should i look for to find which one is has most or all of the qualities? Thanks!

Be sure to check out the medical costs of this breed and that your parents are ready for it. You're likely to spend $2000 or more on medical bills for this dog in the first year.

I do love my bulldog tons but man have i put a lot of money out for her.

Wow, what a gift! You know, if the breeder is very knowledgable about the breed, I would recommend the breeder pick out the puppy for you and your lifestyle. The breeder is the one that knows the puppies very well and has interacted with them from day 1.

If that doesn't appeal to you, then you want to look for an alert puppy that isn't either too bold or too nervous. You don't want the first puppy that comes bounding towards you at full speed, but you also don't want a puppy hiding in the corner scared of the world either. You probably don't want a "runt" right now. They can be great, but with this breed, I'd be a bit timid of taking a runt. Puppies overall should be curious, active, happy, and into trouble. Look for the one that doesn't necessarily start the trouble, but may participate. Ultimately, once you've figured out which pups are not the "extremes" from the litter, you will go by personal preference from there.
