brand new puppy

I have a brand new 8 week old Boxer puppy named Bailey. I was wondering if anyone has any helpful tips for house breaking him, getting him to sleep alone, and crate training him? I have seen a few videos and things like that, are they worth the money, do they work? Any helpful hints or tips will be appreciated.

Time, patience, consistency, and some caffeine (to keep you awake after listening to him whine in thecrate all night), those are the best tools to help you train your new puppy.

There are some great books like "Don't Shoot the Dog" or "Puppy Training for Dummies" that are good. If you follow the advice, your puppy days will go smoother, but ultimately, every puppy is different and you have to find what works in your situation. In person help in a puppy class is also a wonderful way to socialize your puppy and talk with other puppy owners and people who are going through the same issues you are working through.

I have a 9 month old boxer that i've had since he was 8 weeks old. I'm not gonna lie to you. the next 4 to 6 months, depending on your pup, are gonna be rough. depending on your pup, housetraining can be a major issue or can be insignificant. my boxer wasn't fully housetrained until he was 6 months old. the very first dog i ever had was housetrained in about a week. so i've experienced both extremes. with crate training i got lucky. my dog accepted it pretty quickly and after the first two nights he could make it all night without a potty break. training classes are very helpful. my pup had classes once a week for the past six months and he did very well and now respects me and knows i'm boss. he's not perfect but he's within reason. for the first few months you'll really enjoy the time you spend by yourself without the dog even if it's only for a minute or two. but after a while you won't have to be with your pup all the time and you can trust him to be alone for a while.
