What you are describing is usually a result of the female retaining the eggs a little too long. Her body has reabsorbed some of the egg, and the yellow is calcification. I have never had a viable egg hatch from this type of situation, but when in doubt... incubate it anyway!

That perfectly describes my first three eggs. All infertile. The second clutch, which was layed this weekend, is firm, hard egg shells, and veined when candled. These are fertile. I did incubate one of the original eggs for 4 weeks, it finally molded, and I sliced it open to find nothing but grey goo inside.
