Back in September, I wrote about the tradegy I went through with my beloved Sarge. About a month and a half ago, I adopted a beautiful 15 month old purebred shepard. The previous owners were two busy and kept him crated way too much. He needs some socialization and some obedience training but overall he is wonderful, and I am in love. My reason for writing, now is that I have just experienced another horrible scare. The other night I noticed that his snout was swollen and his lips were so thick. It was late evening so I figured I would watch him. Thought maybe he got bit by a spider or something. About 11:00 that night he started running around the house like a mad dog He would settle down for a little while and then start running frantically around the house. About 2:00 in the morning I realized, after a trip to the vet that day, I had cleaned the car seats, and thought I would try Static Guard to help remove the hair. About an hour and half after that Duke and I went out for a quick errand. Maybe the spray was irritating him. I washed him down with water. By the next morning his nose and lips were back to normal but he was acting like a crazed dog, and even tried to jump out a bay window. I called the vet as soon as they opened and she told me to give him benadryl, which thankfully I had. This seemed to calm him somewhat. After 2 days on the benadryl he finally started to return to himself.. It was so scary. For 2 full days he would look at me, like he had no idea who I was. He would not come when called, and wanted no contact whatsoever. I wasn't scared that he would be vicious, but he had such a blank stare, and was so timid. It's been a week now and he is 100% back to his loving, affectionate self. I have thrown out the static guard, and will be very cautious with any other cleaning products. Has anyone ever experience something like this. I feel so horrible, to have subjected him to this and never want anything like this to happen again. Terry
