Chihuahua and what????

smith710 Feb 01, 2006 04:17 PM

I'm thinking maybe a rat terrier... but I'm not positive. I got it a few days ago and the people didnt have any information about it and the information they did have ket getting changed. They had no clue at all. Hes somewhere around a year... at least thats what the people said. Hes around 10 lbs.. so he's way to big to be a pure chuahua. I was looking online and the rat terrier mixes look alot like him. Well heres my pup. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks alot!

A purebred Chihuahua from puppy mill breed could certainly be that size. Tiny dogs have a low survival rate of both the pups and the mothers, which is unprofitable for puppy mills. They use larger dogs, which is of course not apparent until long after you've bought that cute pet shop puppy. I know that is not where you got the dog, but it could be where the original breeding came from.

Looks like just a chi to me. normally they shouldnt be over 6lbs per the AKC but some do get as large as yours. mine is righ at 8lbs but is much longer (about an inch) then they should be so he isnt fat..just larger.

Looks like a chihuahua to me. If mixed with anythign one of the smaller terriers like the toy fox terrier or rat terrier, but still could easily pass for a purebred chihuahua. Cute dog! Hope you have lots of fun years together.

He looks just my baby!
He sort of has the 'deer headed' look, has a longer nose, and not the apple-head style of most chis.
my baby is for sure pure bred and weighs 8 pounds, her brother is over 10 pounds, and she is from a litter of 8 puppies. i have seen her parents, and know that they are purebred as well.
Being larger is not common, but is okay!
