My Husky is Registered with...

anne_elizabeth Feb 02, 2006 11:55 PM

the ACA. I was not too impressed with their website, as I could not find any history of the group. I didn't really care when I purchased my Husky, if he was registered with anyplace or not--but since the breeder gave me the papers and all, I'm curious to know about this organization: American Canine Association (ACA)

Anyone have any experience/knowledge?

Thanks,
A.E.

If a breeder does not register with the American Kennel Club, there is a good chance they are not keeping their dogs in the minimum conditions required to meet AKC standards. That is not a good thing.

I don't have any experience with that organization. The largest organization in the US is obviously the American Kennel Club a second to that is the United Kennel Club.

Granted, the Alaskan Huskies are considered "mutts" by most definitions of the word, but they are an actual "breed" that is being bred for a function- sled dog racing etc. I'm not sure if there is an organization that their breeders are working with.

Overall, it really doesn't matter what organization your dog is registered with as long as the dog is wonderful, healthy, and well loved.

If at some later date you want to do performance competition with the dog, you can register with most organizations if the dog is spayed or neutered.

Dear dog,
I can not buy anything larger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think that I will continue to sleep on the couch to ensure your comfort. Look at videos of dogs sleeping, they can actually curl up in a ball. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to your fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straigt out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space used is nothing more than doggy sarcasm.

Just as a bit of information...

The only associations that do work with an Alaskan Husky are the sled dog racing organisations. ISDRA and IFSS for example. The Alaskan is in a continual state of evolution as breeders introduce different breed combinations in order to find that right mix that makes the dogs run faster and pull harder.
We don't have a standard or anywhere you can register your dogs.
We do however track lineage and all that stuff and there are kennels of Alaskans that are saught after and entire litters will be sold before they are born. So you can get certificates saying your dog is from such and such a kennel... but you'd never be able to register it anywhere.

Since you mentioned the Alaskan I thought I'd share

I just remembered one more thing... and I can't figure out how to edit posts.

Anyways some time ago the AKC or one of the other organisations approached the dog sledding community in regards to having the Alaskan certified as a breed.
The idea was rejected because then there would be certain breed characteristics that would need to be adhered to.
I can't remember where I read that or I'd post the link.

Cheers

Tim

How about some pics? Most of us can tell immediately by looking if it's a purebred Sibe or a mix.

Again, not that it may matter to you (or the dog). However, if it was presented/priced as purebred and you received a mix, you have recourse.

I'll try to post a pic tomorrow...

Saw his parents on site. Pure white Mom, classic black/white Dad.

How can you tell by just looking at a picture that he is a pure Husky? Curious.
