My New Little Girl!

itobean Feb 06, 2006 11:38 AM

Meet Lexi! We call her "Lu Lu" for short! I found her on the side of the road scavanging for food last June 14, 2005. She came right to me when I stopped the car and opened the door. I scooped her up and took her straight to my vet. She was so flea infested that her normally white nose was black from all the fleas. And the tips of her ears were bloody and raw from flies biting them. The vet cleaned her up and examined her. In the meantime I was calling every vet in town to see if anyone had posted her missing. She had no tags, no microchip. Sadly the vet told me that she was heartworm positive. My husband and I decided that even if we did find the previous owner they did not deserve to have her back because she was in such bad shape. So we started the treatment for the heartworms and now, on February 6th, last Friday we found out she has a completely clean bill of health - heartworm NEGATIVE! And she's gained 25 pounds with us!! She is such a sweetheart and just wants to love on you and wants to be loved in return. She is such a joy to our lives. And plus she keeps her older brothers (Husky mixes from the local shelter) in shape with all the playing!! I just had to share my wonderful "Lu Lu story"!!!

What a great story and a beautiful dog! You should be commended for doing what you have and for providing such a wonderful home for her. Please post more pictures as time goes on.

Thanks for sharing the story and picture!

Thank you very much! We are so happy to add her to our family! She is starting to feel more and more comfortable with us. She even "talks" to us now! We are thinking she was abused for essentially being a Husky. It's so cute to watch her realize that we will let her be who she is! She'll "talk" to us and then almost like wait to see if she's going to be yelled at or hit. It breaks my heart sometimes. There just aren't enough words to describe our love for her!

The background of that picture looks eerily familar... as does your story. My boy, Koda, was abused here in Savannah and even hit by a car, being left to lay with a broken hip for 2 weeks. Since he's been with us... going on a year... he's opened up so much and talks like it's going out of style.

Koda was stolen twice because some guys thought he looked mean. They were probably going to abuse him AGAIN to make him a "guard dog" or a fight dog. He's been through so much. Poor guy. Im so glad you got Lu Lu and you're showing her the love she deserves!

Just wondering.. is that either a Banfield Clinic where the picture was taken or was that somewhere here in Savannah? I just cant place the background and it's gnawing at me, lol. Sorry if Im being too forward.

Koda is the Black and white one.
