boxer pup just neutered

dragonpuppy Feb 07, 2006 04:44 PM

my 9 month boxer pup was just neutered yesterday. we brought him home today. he's a naturally excited dog and we were told he need to stay calm for the next 10 days. we've got him in his crate right now which we've put in the kitchen so he's not alone. but should i leave him in there all the time except for food, water and bathroom breaks? i'd feel bad doing that to him for 10 days. or as the days go on should i gradually let him stay out for a little longer? we would be able to keep him confined in the kitchen so that he doesn't run all over the house. what about taking him for walks? will i be able to do that soon or should i wait until after 10 days?

i just fot my dacsie pup neutered less than a month ago. he loves to fly around my living room so i feel your pain. if you can keep him confined to the kitchen without getting into anything, like under the sink, then do that while your home so he doesnt have to be in his crate all day. he can go on controled walks with you but i would wait a couple days, so you dont expose him to something that can get ito his stiches and cause an infection. after about a week the stiches should be mostly healed. just take it easy with him for the vet recomened amt of time. and try to avoid letting him jump up on things.

In the crate or on a leash at all times. No running and no jumping. Ask your vet when it will be okay to take him for walks. It pays, in a big way, to follow vet instructions on restricted activity.
