hi, i own a beautiful female golden retriever and she is about 7 to 8 months old she was born on june 9th 05, and i wanted to know when will she have her first heat becuase im scared that she might attract or go somewhere to look for a mate like i heard dogs do. well help please and what do you think i should do if she gets or when she gets her heat. thanks

I'd have her spayed immediately, because she is likely to go in heat any time now, most likely by this spring. If you leave her outside at all, she may get bred, and it would be dangerous for her. Even inside a fence, a female dog in heat left outside is at very high risk. They need to be under maximum security every minute when in heat.

It would be best to make an appointment and have her spayed immediately if that is your intention. The first heat can come at anytime though it can vary with each breed. You would have to be very careful with her if she does come into heat. You would not want her to become pregnant at this early age as it could drastically risk not only her own health but also giving birth and rearing puppies. Having her spayed will greatly reduce any risk of her developing cancer in the future.
