When and for how long does your ball stop eating in the winter?

Gary42 Oct 09, 2003 07:55 PM

Just wanted to poll folks with more experience than myself. I have a pair of 02 male and female balls. The female has always been a more aggressive feeder, but the male has always eaten when offered. He likes live better than frozen (mice) but takes both. Lately he has acted interested in eating, but stops short of taking the mouse. I've heard some males stop eating normally in the winter and I was curious what everyone's experience with this is?

my male has never went off feed yet. of course, its his first winter, so ill see how it goes but he shows no signs of giving up. i feed him 2 large mice a week with no problem.

It varies. My males go off sooner and stay off longer. Typically, they go off feed in November (when it starts getting cold in FL) and do not start eating until around May-June. My females stop around Nov-Dec and start back up around March.

Yearlings and below typically do not stop feeding. They eat like pigs throughout the winter.
