another q: breeders

I am really naive about getting a pup from a breeder. I have always had free pups or from the shelter. So any advice is appreciated.
We (daughter and hubby want a yorkie too) were talking to a breeder who sells dog accessories at permanent flea market. He also raises yorkies. We were talking to him about the breed and he says he has a litter due next month. He brings the pups with him and takes a deposit. He has potential owners come each weekend to interact with the pups. He said in the past people really disrespected his home when he had people come there.

He does not let anyone else touch the pups while there except the ones who are the soon to be parents. He says he will not sell pups to just anyone and this gives him a chance to get to know the people and see how they do with the pups.

Warning bells but my daughter wants to go with him. He gives akc papers, year guarantee, everything I have heard to expect the breeder to supply etc. the price is reasonable about avg. Gave us the vet's phone # to call for references.
What is your take on this? And how do you choose a pup that young? I have always chosen at 6 wks or more and know what to look for at that age.

Oh my. I would RUN. As fast as I can from this guy. If he's soooo worried about these tiny, tiny babies that he won't let anyone touch them, they WHY would he take them out before they are 12 weeks old, and had a minimum of 2 shots.

I would NEVER expose my puppies to anything before they were amply protected.

Please, find a good responsible breeder, preferably a show breeder with a good solid reputation.

I know they're adorable, but if you buy from someone who's that unconcerned about his dogs' health, what other health issues is is unconcerned about?

As a long time breeder/exhibitor that's my best advice.
