prescription costs

I LIVE IN ALABAMA AND HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIND A VET THAT WILL WRITE A PRESCRIPTION FOR EVEN SOMTHING AS SIMPLE AS HEARTGUARD. I HAVE BEEN TOLD POINT BLANK BY ONE VET THAT THEY DONT HAVE TO WRITE A PRESCRIPTION FOR ONLINE MEDICATION AND THAT SELLING PRESCRIPTIONS IS WHERE THEY MAKE THEIR PROFIT. THE MEDICATION THAT THE VET SELLS IS ATLEAST A 100% MARK-UP FROM WHAT I COULD GET IT ONLINE.CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN TO ME IF THERE IS ANY WAY TO COMBAT THIS OR IF THERE IS ANY LAW AGAINST FORCING THE PET OWNER TO PURCHASE FROM THE VET AS OPPOSED TO ONLINE AFTER THE VET HAS STATED THAT THE ANIMAL NEEDS THE MEDICATION TO RETAIN GOOD HEALTH?

I don't know if there is a law against forcing a pet owner to only purchase from a vet or not. Hopefully someone will come by with answer to that.

I can understand why a vet wouldn't want to transfer a script to an online vendor because of all the flyby night operations out there but if it was a legitimate online company and your vet truly cared about the health of your dog they should at least be willing to work with you and match the online price. Even if they lost the cost of the script for your dog, they are still over the life of the animal going to have your business.

BTW... no slight or offense intended but writing a post in all caps is not necessary and only makes the post harder to read. Thanks!!

Have you tried filling out the online request where the company calls your vet to get the perscription instead of trying to get the vet to give it to you?
