The Husky "Roo roo roo"

anne_elizabeth Feb 20, 2006 11:04 PM

What does this sound mean, sort of a "roorooroo"? My Husky will get this look in his eyes, flatten his ears back, and sort of "roorooroo" at me. I'm not sure what he's trying to say. It happens at random times throughout the day...it just happened tonight when I woke him up (from his cold, comfortable perch on the deck)to "go potty" before bed, and he just stood there in the yard and made this sound at me--like he resented being woken up? Did he want to play? I don't know...

I will have to get a book on dog communication like Walt suggested!!

I guess any reply to this post depends on whether you Husky owners have any idea what I'm talking about...

sounds like his version of a howl, not every dog bays the same.

I think he may have wanted company. Sibes are VERY social, probably one of the most social dogs. He probably wanted you out there with him. Sometimes my Lab mix "roo roo roo's" when she is being demanding or stubborn about something.

If you don't have/get a second dog, you're going to have to give him lots of extra attention. He'll want to go everywhere with you, as well. Does he ride well in the car? The only bad part of that is that the car will get covered with hair in no time, and it's hard to keep them out of the front seat (or your lap!). It's best to get a car divider...

Any time I've heard that from a husky it's meant "please let's play a ton more" or it can be a bit sassy and is a way of "talking back" at you. You kind of have to read it in it's context to know for sure.

Dear dog,
I can not buy anything larger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think that I will continue to sleep on the couch to ensure your comfort. Look at videos of dogs sleeping, they can actually curl up in a ball. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to your fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straigt out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space used is nothing more than doggy sarcasm.

Thank you for your input--now I'm thinking that the "roo roo roo" from Smokey is his way of sassing or showing some sort of displeasure.

It is definitely distinct from his bark or his mournful howling when left alone!

Thanks all!
