Rawhide Bones for Huskies

anne_elizabeth Feb 28, 2006 01:46 AM

Do you give rawhide bones to your Husky? Also, what are marrow bones and where do you get them? How much rawhide is too much for a Husky? I read they have sensitive stomachs--true? Thank you, experienced Sibe-owners, for your help...

I wouldn't give the rawhide bones that have those big knots on the end. If you do give the rawhide try to find the stuff that is ground up then pressed back together. I think it's easier on their systems. But I am not a vet. Marrow bones I think you get from a butcher.

My Sibe loves the thicker chew flips from Petsmart. She goes nuts for them; won't touch the regular bones...

Walt--What do the chew flips from Petsmart look like? Does your dog eat the whole thing, and how long does it take--I mean, do you give it to her over a period of days or is it a one day treat.

It's about a 15 minute treat! lol

They're Dentley's chew flips, but they're thicker than the normal ones. I'm not home, so I don't have the bag in front of me, and I can't find them on the web.

She'll open the pantry slider and take them out herself sometimes. Once we noticed her going back and forth to the kitchen, and all of a sudden there were like 7 chew flips scattered across the family room before we figured it out!

I'll try to remember to look later...

You can give them rawhide. I've never had a dog have a problem with it other than trying to swallow too big a piece and gagging it back up or throwing it up (my Lab mix who's a pig!). They'll swallow those big pieces rather than letting another pack member get them.
