I have an 8 year old female Doberman. Her paws on the bottom of here feet are "peeling" and they are raw.They bleed. The vets around my area tell me it could be a food allergy. I tried changing her food with no luck. I also read a report where the toxins in floor cleaners can cause this. I nolonger use any cleaners.The vet has her on Atopica. This sort of helps. Not the answer though.She does lick them when they get to the raw and bleeding stages.Then it becomes a nightmare. The medicine is very expensive. Has anybody else had this problem.

Dobermans are prone to obsessive licking. Read the article "Obsessive Behavior" at the link below my signature. Other things to consider is a bitter tasting substance on her feet and/or a pad toughener or protectant--must be approved by your vet, of course. If you have not taken her to a veterinary dermatology specialist, definitely do that. If the vet approves, you might want to keep boots on her, but I don't know what kind would be best. There are quite a few choices now, very worth researching.

It could be so many things. Are there chemicals on the grass where she walks? Or is it snowy and salty where you are? It could be something as simple as a plastic crate pan. You've got to take a look at everything that her feet come in contact with. I'd tend to think contact allergy rather than food allergy.
