Puppy - housetraining, general questions

dougal1 Mar 02, 2006 01:29 PM

I have a 12-14wk puppy who goes to the door to go out - he does his business - and in 15 minutes wants to go out again - and in 20 minutes again - I'm not sure who is training who - but when I don't take him out he pees on the floor. He also hates to be alone - I can't sit at the computor - within line of site without him whinning. ANy suggestions on bladder training - separation stuff.
I try and keep him out of his crate -direct supervision in our den (gated) so he only goes to the crate for naps or night time - but he is driving me crazy. Help!!

Well, he's a young beagle puppy. You are lucky he's telling you he needs to go potty and is giving you warning before going on the rug. Beagles are notoriously hard to housebreak. Consider yourself lucky and let the puppy out when he whines to go out. In time the length of time a puppy can go between bathroom breaks will increse, but 20 minutes for an active 12 week old is actually pretty good.

Dear dog,
I can not buy anything larger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think that I will continue to sleep on the couch to ensure your comfort. Look at videos of dogs sleeping, they can actually curl up in a ball. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to your fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straigt out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space used is nothing more than doggy sarcasm.
