seizures

hi. i have a 5 year old mixed breed. he is dobie/shep as close as we can tell. he has had sezures in the past. like 1 or 2 a year. now since the first of the year he has had 3. we did lab work and all was normal so we are assuming he is epilectic. we started him on phenobarb. 60mg 2x day. he is so wobbly that we cut back the doseage by half then after a week we need to raise it back up. i had another dog that took phenobarb but didn't have this side effect when he started it.

is there anything more natural for seizures or is medication the only thing? also is there any treatment for the epilepsy its self. thanks anyone.

Just stay with the medication and this side effect wears off in a week or two. Your dog is much better off with these seizures under good control. Things will get better if you just stay with the medication and have the blood work done on schedule. Also be sure to keep notes on any seizures with date, time, duration and symptoms.
