When to start potty training?

athuff Mar 03, 2006 09:11 PM

We rescued a 4 week old boxer/lab mix whose mother had been hit. When we got her she had a serious worm problem, which is being worked on. She was extremely lathergic due to the worms. She's now six weeks and doing very well although she acts more like a cat than a dog. Very cuddly, wants to be in the house all the time, not playing the backyard with the other two dogs. She is pouncing and will come to you when you call her. We've been working on potty training but not a whole lot. When is the best time to do so? Our oldest dog is a year and a half old pit bull mix who whose potty trained when we adopted her. The second one is a nine week old german shephard/doberman whose halfway potty trained. Sometimes whines when she has to go and only has "accidents" on tile floors now.

My carpets are a mess! When and how should I train her?

Start now! Bring her out every half hr to start with and gradually increase the time. If you can't supervise her make sure she is in a kennel. Also you need to clean the carpets so they no longer have the smell in them. I would try Nature's Miracle or another enzyme cleaner.

Thank you. Yes, I am using carpet cleaner and have plans to have them professionally cleaned as soon as these two are potty trained. We have started with her as I'd rather start a good habit than break a bad one. We take her out everytime we take the other two out. Now, we're going to start interupting her as soon as we see her go too.
