is something wrong

dragonpuppy Mar 08, 2006 01:09 AM

ir's about 2 am and i've been woken up by my 10 month boxer puppy. he was whining and scratching at his crate. i took him outside and about 2 drops of pee came out so that couldn't be what he wanted. besdies he hasn't gone out in the middle of the night since he was 8 weeks old. i put him back in his crate and he started whining again and scratching at the door. finally i couldn't stand it anymore so i came downstairs. it's been 10 minutes and he's quiet now. i don't want to go up yet in case he hasn't comepletely settled down. he's never done this before. he always fusses and whines when in the crate but he settles after 10 or 15 minutes. (he's started whining again now) but anyway, he's never whined in the middle of the night. so what could cause him to start whining now. i don't know if i should be annoyed or worried.

Hi! Just a thought here but have you tried moving the crate into the bedroom with you at night? It might help to keep him calm if he knows he is closer to you. At 10 months it might also be he is testing you and by giving in to the whining you reinforce that behavior. Has he been having any other difficulty in going to the bathroom at other times of the day?
