shedding at waist area

ohmai Mar 09, 2006 10:51 PM

My lab/husky has been shedding a LOT of fur at his sides recently (about where the-stomache-makes-the-curve meets his thigh/leg area). I think his fur there is suppose to be black, but recently he's been getting a lot of white clumps of fur sticking out of that area, and if I just pull on it, the white fur comes out easily. But I think he's been shedding there for a while, just not as much as today. The shades of white fur are the ones that are being shed, and they stick out/come out in clumps. No where else is he shedding like that. What do you guys think this is?
He hasn't gone for a vet check in a while, but he seems perfectly normal to me. All of his activities are routinely done.

Also, I'm not sure if the reason he's shedding so much is because of his husky side. But I find it weird how he's shedding so much at one area, and not the whole.

Dogs will blow coat if stressed, ill, worm infestation, fleas, or have anesthesia, but they also do it when weather turns warmer and when going from puppyhood to adulthood. The skin is what to watch. If there are bare spots, irritation, flakes or itching, or flaking skin, the dog needs a vet. It is normal for Siberian Huskies to shed an unbelievable amount. It also seems to be normal for mixed breeds to inherit the most extreme factors of the dogs that went into the mix, especially if they're half that breed.
