Silly Question?

miragesmom Mar 10, 2006 02:41 PM

I was just curious as to if there are any mixed breeds joining in on coursing? I've been trying to think of something to do with my 2yo mixed breed and can't quite figure it out. I've thought about the agility and have done some work with him, but don't really have the finances for extra classes and equipment rental, etc right now (hopefully in the future). Also, had considered competitive obedience, he knows most things, but was too puppy like in his attention span and is just starting to mature to the point where I'd feel comfortable taking him into a ring. But I want to do something really fun with him. He is fast as anything (use to out run all of his site hound friends at doggy day camp), and really enjoy's "the chase". Does UKC hold these tournaments or is it just a certain group dedicated to coursing? Are mixes allowed to course competitively? How do you get started? I don't know anything about it really, have never been to an event and really am not a sitehound person (more of a bully breed gal). Any suggestions? Experiences?

Thanks!

My coursing experience is limited. We have a 3 yr old Pharaoh Hound who has participated in AKC and ASFA trials, no mix breeds are allowed.

However! You may be able to find a local club that does practices, some of these clubs allow any dog with th chase instinct for practices.
